Brazilian teams for Libertadores 2023

Remembering that the criteria for choosing the classified teams in Brazil is the performance of the teams from series A of the 2022 Brasileirão: the eight best teams in the ranking were called up to participate in the competition's qualifiers. However, Fortaleza (8th place) was eliminated in the 3rd phase of the Pre-Libertadores, by the Cerro Porteño team, from Paraguay. Therefore, the Brazilian representatives in the championship are:

Dates

The tournament's group stage games began between 4 and 6 April (Tuesday and Thursday, respectively), and the last round will take place between June 27th and 29th. This year, the final of the dispute will take place on November 4th, at Maracanã!

Fluminense is champion!

Fluminense beat Boca Juniors 2-1, at Maracanã, on November 4, 2023, and won the unprecedented Copa Libertadores title. With goals from Germán Cano and John Kennedy, Tricolor das Laranjeiras ended a 121-year wait for continental glory.

The game was balanced, with both teams creating scoring chances. Fluminense opened the scoring in the 35th minute of the first half, with Cano, who took advantage of Arias' cross. Boca Juniors equalized in the second half, with Advíncula, but John Kennedy scored the winning goal for Tricolor in extra time.

Winning the Libertadores title is a historic milestone for Fluminense, which becomes the 13th Brazilian club to lift the cup. Tricolor also guaranteed a place in the 2023 Club World Cup and the 2024 Recopa Sul-Americana.
